On April 17th 2026, Ph.D. candidate in cultural anthropology Nehal Amer successfully defended her dissertation titled “Speculative Urbanism: Real Estate, Capitalism, and Subjectivity in Egypt’s Desert Frontiers.”

Her advisor, Prof. Setha Low, and the Graduate Center PhD Anthropology Program wish Dr. Amer some well-deserved rest and success in all her future endeavors!
