His photograph is titled “Gimme Shelter.”
The photo shows the July 2022 field camp and excavations at Mochena Borago Rock Shelter, a Stone-Age archeological site on the slopes of Mt. Damota in southwestern Ethiopia. Wilson and fellow researchers explore human behavior and culture over more than 70,000 years in the hopes of understanding the timing and tempo of humans’ dispersal out of Africa to inhabit the rest of the world.
He writes, “My research at Mochena involves mapping the artifacts we excavate and 3D modeling the site to understand how ancient people used the space and divided their activities throughout time. Archaeologists Dr. Joshua Pike and David Ruiz Menjivar sit at the dining table enjoying a tea break.”
In addition to having their images displayed at the Graduate Center, winners receive $250.
